A Low-Key Guy Fawkes Day

Sorry for my silence last night. Yesterday was a rough day and I now believe that I must have hit my head harder than I thought when I fell on Wednesday. I have been struggling with headaches, nausea and fatigue ever since.

This morning, headache or not, I had to leave at 8:00 to drive to Dallas once again. It was a bit challenging since I was not feeling well, but I listened to music and tried to make the best of it. The freeway was very busy and crowded for a Saturday morning, and I couldn’t make any sense of it until I realized that this weekend is “First Monday” weekend in Canton. For those of you who aren’t local, the weekend before the first Monday of the month there is a huge open-air flea market in the town of Canton, which lies between here and Dallas. I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that I’ve never been, because I know how tempted I’d be to buy everything in sight! But anyway, the point is that there were literally hundreds of cars streaming into Canton from both directions, and as a result traffic was very heavy until I was well past Canton.

Because of the heavy traffic, I ended up getting to the airport just as Jasper’s plane was landing instead of fifteen minutes early. It all worked out fine. He was escorted to the baggage claim where I was waiting and it was so good to see him!

He was tired and ravenous, so we made a beeline for one of our favorite Indian restaurants and stuffed ourselves with fabulous food. We also brought home plenty of samosas for the rest of the family!

The drive home was difficult because my adrenaline had dissipated and I once again struggled with a headache, nausea and fatigue. Jasper was no help as he reclined his seat and snored most of the way home. I was so relieved to get home and be able to lie down.

This evening I have felt a little better. Today was Guy Fawkes Day, but Lucy couldn’t think of anything to make a Guy out of. We still had our bonfire and sparklers, and it was actually the first evening so far that it’s been cool enough to enjoy sitting by a fire outside. I also got some knitting done and finished reading a book. I’m hoping to be back up to speed by tomorrow or Monday at the latest.
