My Kingdom for the Map!

This morning during the times when Jasper was working on his own, I was looking for something–a map I drew of a story world. I thought I knew where it was. It wasn’t there. Then I thought it would be safely filed away in a file, because that’s what I would have done if I was smart. I wasn’t smart.

I was beginning to panic a little bit. I didn’t want to have to recreate the map from memory while reading through a 100,000 word manuscript. Yet, I really needed it because the map only covers the southernmost tip of one continent, and now I am writing a story that takes place in the northern part of the same continent, but obviously it has to be connected to the part I’ve already written about!

I took the drastic step of starting to go through stacks of stuff in my office nook—and there was the map, in the bright red folder just like I thought it was. I apparently spilled a large quantity of tea on it at some point, but it is still readable.

Now if only I can find the map I drew of the eastern continent . . .

This afternoon when I went out I stopped to get some poster board so I can delve into map making when I get some free time. I love, love, love maps. I am excited about getting to make a new one.

This evening Jasper had yet another 4-H event in a nearby town, so I drove him over there only to have trouble finding the place, and then to discover that the provided supper was not gluten free. Jasper’s friend Kristin was there too, and Kristin’s mom Joan is also GF, so the two of us left our kids to their fate and went out for supper.

I only know of one eatery in that town, a frozen yogurt place run by a homeschool family, so we went there. The GF options weren’t great for someone who is also diabetic, but I ended up getting a baked sweet potato loaded with chili, cheese and sour cream. It was kind of hard on my blood sugar but it was also delicious. I’m going to have to try making that at home to see what my family thinks!

We got back to the meeting just before it ended, so that worked out well. Jasper learned a lot about parliamentary procedure.

Tomorrow is Friday, my least favorite day of the week. *sigh*

Maybe I’ll have time to work on my map!
